The Clean Lip Gloss I Couldn’t Find—So I Made My Own

Make it stand out

If I’m being honest, I’m not a “throw away everything and start over” kind of girl.

I’m a cleanish beauty + health girl.

I read labels. I care. I try to make better choices.

But I’m also realistic—and I’m still in process.

There are things I’ve cleaned up completely, and there are things I’m still slowly reworking. Lip gloss falls somewhere in the middle.

I love a good MAC lippie. I’m not ready to break up with them entirely. But I am trying to make small changes where I can—especially for products I wear every day, all day, and constantly reapply.

That’s where this gloss comes in.

An “Always & In-Between” Kind of Gloss

This isn’t a statement lip.

It’s not a “full beat” product.

It’s an always-and-in-between gloss.

The one you throw on:

  • before school drop-off

  • between meetings

  • after the gym

  • running errands

  • when you want to look put together but not done

It gives a sheer, flattering nude tint—your lips but better. Enough color to matter, not so much that it feels heavy or high maintenance.

And while I haven’t fully let go of my MAC lipsticks yet (no shame), this gloss is what I reach for when I want something easy, clean, and wearable.

Why I Made It Myself

I couldn’t find a gloss that hit all the boxes:

  • thick, cushiony texture

  • sheer, pretty color

  • clean-ish ingredients

  • no weird taste

  • no chalky feel

This formula uses rose kaolin clay for a soft nude tint instead of synthetic dyes, and it’s oil-based—so no preservatives or fillers. It’s not extreme, it’s not perfect, and it’s not meant to be.

It’s just… better. And sometimes that’s the goal.

The Recipe: Thick Nude Lip Gloss

Yield: 10 × 10ml tubes

Finish: glossy, sheer nude

Vibe: clean-ish, everyday, effortless

Melt Phase

Gently double-boil until fully melted:

  • Castor oil — 4 Tbsp + 1 tsp (57g)

  • Jojoba oil or fractionated coconut oil — 1 Tbsp + 2 tsp (24g)

  • Beeswax — 2½ tsp (12g)

Stir until completely liquid and smooth.

Color (Don’t Skip This Step)

In a small bowl, make a paste:

  • Rose kaolin clay — 1½ tsp (5.5g)

  • Warm castor oil — 1–1½ tsp (3–5g)

Mix until smooth (no lumps). Slowly whisk into the melted oils until fully blended.

Finish

Let the mixture cool slightly (warm, not hot), then stir in:

  • Vitamin E oil — ¼ tsp (1.2g)

  • Cinnamon bark essential oil:

    • 3 drops for flavor only

    • 4–5 drops for a warm tingle

Mix very well.

Pour & Set

Pour into tubes while warm.

Let set for 30–45 minutes before capping.

Cleanish. Intentional. In process.

Still cute.
